Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

I picked up that sound on Dirk Powell's video and then heard it on the Savoy Doucet Band CD. I really like this song.
Where can I find the lyrics?

Re: Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

Hi Maz,

Here's one version:

Hé jolie catin, ouais, mais moi j’m’en va
Moi j’m’en va à grand Choupique
pour voir des belles ‘tites filles

Hé jolie catin, jolie, tu m’fais du mal
Fais du mal, jolie poulette
J’va pleurer pour toi

Thanks. Do you know where Choupique is? Is it a town?

Re: Re: Re: Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

I always understood it to be a fish and also the name of a coulee.

Peace,
Griff

Re: Re: Re: Re: Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

There may be more than one, but there is an old community and bayou between Chataignier and Eunice called Choupique that is where my great grandfather Denus Mcgee was raised. He recorded a song called "One-step de Choupique". Of course it is also the Cajun word for the bowfin fish that I love so much.

there's also a little area south of Sulphur that's called Choupique; i want to say it's between sulphur and hackberry.

Looked on a "Roads of Louisiana" atlas and saw the one you talked about, and also one in Lafourche parish. The one near Chatagnier isnt on the map anymore, just the bayou.

Re: Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

I live just off Choupique road, not far from Choupique
bayou where yes, Griff, you could catch a Choupique.
Not that anyone would want to. toothy critters, not good to eat, the meat is very mushy. They do fight like hell though. Turn a perfectly good spinnerbait into a twisted ball of wire.

Re: Re: Anyone has the lyrics for Choupique?

Oh man, not good to eat. Maybe its the cabri in me, but its one of my favorites. It is only good if cooked fresh though, and I only like it in a sauce, not fried. On the banks of the bayou cooked over a fire, I get revenge for the twisted ball of spinnerbait.
