With the popularity of the keys of "C" and "Bb", I was wondering if there is anyone who plays a Cajun box in the key of "B"? I've heard of Cajun boxes in every other key except "B". Perhaps I've been under a rock, but it seems as though that key is rare in the world of C&Z, and popular in Celtic genres. It would seem natural for bassists and guitarists to accompany "B". ~ Rick
Jason Frey uses a B and a C# instead of a C and D...in other words his accompanying instruments tune down a half step and treat playing with his C# as if they were accompanying a D and treat his B as if he were playing in C. It works really well and makes everything easier on the voice without pitching it too low as some people think a Bb does. I think he spends most of his time on the C# however and only goes to the B for songs that are very high to sing. The only disadvantage is it makes it tougher to play in other more "traditional" keys, for instance if the band would really want to play in the key of C it would be tough without retuning.
Thanks Chris! I wonder if the Jason Frey/Travis Matte disc is in those keys... I'll check it out. BTW, I'll be in LC from Wednesday night 'til Sunday (with a side trip to see Travis in Carencro on Friday.)
--still lovin' your CD... it gets a 10 Budweiser rating on my web site ;)
