I think that a two reed three row can sound good. If the reeds are good and it's eq'd to fatten it up. I would also consider putting on just a bit of reverb if you have the option on your board. I usually put a bit on the vocals to warm them up.
Alot of old school stuff was done on the GCF two and three rows, which sounds really cool to me. I was listening to some old school compilation and heard stuff that was obviously tidbit of melody that Clifton picked up and made into Haricots ca pas sale. Alot of tunes morph from one player to the next. But I digress.
My Gabbie EAD is pretty fat sounding for a two reed, and I love playing it compared to a 4 reed EAD that I sold off, as I didn't like the weight. I love a light box. The EAD is also lower pitched to begin with. I use my EAD to do tunes like Motordude(on the middle row in the key of D) and some blues tunes, as it plays well in the key of E.
But the FBbEb is nicely pitched too and you can play in the key of C easy and is better keyed if you have a fiddle player(Oh Mom, Bluerunner) Also nice that alot of recording are done on it.
Cool on the Gabby EAD... great key system and so low that now low reed is necessary.. 2 middle reeds are fine
Also if playing with guitarists or fiddlers.. good system
In my experience multi reeded boxes that get stuffed with mechanics and blocks can sound muffled.. this is the case with Hohner Corona IIIR and with some Castagnaris. I woned a compact 2 row Tommy that was a 2 row three reed.. Excellent engineering and craftsmanship but a lot of energy in and muffled.. my larger 2 row 3 reed Castagnari was not that way. This is not the case with their 4 reed 1 row. Loud,.
I,Too prefer, light fast boxes...over and above all the be.lls and whistles.. but I also like dry tuning 12 TET or 19 limit Just
Jazz tuning is also a tripp.. not for everyone but El Parche makes it flat smoke.
I happen to play a Panther in GCF. I've been screwing around with a microphone element placed in a tube installed internally to alter the sound mechanically. Try speaking into a drinking glass. There is the megaphone effect. Feedback is a problem. The resonant cavity must be phased properly to eliminate any modulation. It sounds kinda funky! This may work.
