when you hear a new song, you can
hear certain parts and instantly know what
that 'trick' is.

most songs are not completely new.

although there may be a unique trick for a new song, that you do have to figure out,
if you have done it enough, it gets easy
to spot the common licks, and it;s not so
much work for every new one..

I agree Larry. The more you learn, the easier it gets to pick up new songs. It's like learning different. From French to English, to Spanish, to Italian, it gets exponentially easier from one to the next.
