Hey all,
(See mp3 in link)
I recently came across a 45 RPM of "Evangeline Special" by one Iry LeJeune Jr. on Goldband Records. So far as I've known, none of Iry's children bore that title. Exactly who is on the recording? My ears want to say it's really Jo-El Sonnier. A google search turned up other recordings under the name on other labels, so was this a gimmick, or maybe one of Iry's kids adopting his name (ala Hank Jr.?)
It appears to have been released in/around 1968.
(Sorry about the sound clip quality - I dubbed this from a tape made many years ago)
When I listened to the mp3 it sounded like the band lineup of Garland Domingue on drums, Mervin Faul on steel and Robert Bertrand on fiddle. I just played with Garland last night and asked him...he said he did some recording with Ervin but did not remember him ever using the name "Iry LeJune, Jr." Hilrae Mott, a guitarist/bassist who played on many of the same records who also was there last night said he was positive that it was "Eddie" who recording under the name "Iry LeJune, Jr.." Hilrae seemed pretty confident and he is an excellent source for information on Cajun Music recording sessions at Eddie Shuler's studio. The only way to know for certain is for me to call Ervin and ask him directly. Maybe I will...
