My dreams are to be able to play at two venue's in Cajun country, Fred's Lounge in Mamou (I was born and raised in Mamou) and the Liberty Theatre in Eunice. One came true yesterday.
My wife and I went to Fred's Lounge to celebrate my 47th birthday. We were pleasantly surprised to see that our local favorite band, Jamie Berzas and the Cajuns, were playing to a full house. Jamie was born and raised in Mamou and is Mamou's best kept secret.
During a short break, Jamie visited with us for a few minutes and asked if I would be willing to sit in for a few songs. I was surprised because he has never heard me play before. He just remembered from many years ago of me telling him that I was learning how to play the accordion. It is very intimidating for me to play in front of professional musicians and large crowds. My wife asked if I could play with musicians that I have never played with before. I assured her that these pros would adjust to my playing to make me sound good. I played and sang two songs, Reno Waltz and When I Was Poor.
It will be a birthday that I will always remember!
Good for you Kirk!
Fred's - What a nice spot for that! What a great feeling.... The adrenaline goes through your blood, your heart beats faster, people dance to your pace... Nothing like it - Something tells me you're gonna wanna do it again! :-)Maz
There are certain experiences in life that are never forgotten. That is one , that I'm sure , you will always remember. I'll always remember the day you and Roger spent at my home. Thanks for the memory.
I hope you see all your dreams come true my friend.
