I recently picked up a compilation CD. One of the tracks is a two step called 'Mama Lou' by Allen Fontenot. It's very similar to 'Madeleine', but I like it better, but can't find any lyrics, and my command of French isn't good enough to pick it all up off the record. Can anyone help?
I was particularly pleased to find it, as Allen Fontenot and his Country Cajuns were the first cajun band I saw live, at Allen's Cajun Bandstand club on airline highway, New Orleans. I didn't know enough about the music then, to realize what a terrific band they were.
This was Labor Day weekend 1977, and I was there on the strength of hearing one cajun track on BBC radio in the early 70's. That track ( I've no idea what it was) was enought to convince me I had to hear more.
Here is what I have noted (three words in brackets are not certain and need other ears - Bryan, t'es volontaire ?) :
Oh, Mama Lou,
Mama Lou t’es si jolie,
Oh, Mama Lou,
T’es la belle de tout (la baie).
Hé, Mama Lou,
Si tu danses des danses cadjins,
Oh, Mama Lou,
Toi tu les danses tous si bien.
Oh, Mama Lou,
Mama Lou, t’es si jolie,
Oh, Mama Lou,
T’es ma belle qu’est si (z’à part).
Hé Mama Lou,
Mama Lou, t’es si mignonne,
Oh, Mama Lou,
C’est toi qu’est (un petit ???).
I dont have much to add. I think in the last sentence he may be saying "C'est toi que j'aime autant", but I'm not sure. This would be a good one for Daniel.
