Caught the Beausoleil show last night in Lafayette. Jimmy Breaux was on top of his game showing his expertise on the box. He truly is a world class accordion player. He is also a very patient instructor who is able to teach at any level. He put a few songs in my box, but I sometimes have a little trouble getting them out!
Jimmy Breaux is a master -- it's hard to imagine a better skillset and interpretation on the box than that of Jimmy's. While he is an intregal part of the "superband" Beausoleil, his talents are often overshadowed by Michael's awesome, yet exceedingly featured fiddle lickage (and songwriting.) 'Tis the crutch of being in a pioneering band such as Beausoleil which features the best of the best. However, this makes Jimmy's two solo discs musical treasures for any Jimmy fans and are both well worth the quest.
Beausoleil will be closing the Festival Acadiens main stage this year. I understand some of the past Beausoliel accordionist may perform with them. However, Jimmy Breaux will gather a couple of friends and perform on the Heritage Stage Sunday Oct. 15, begining at 11:15 am. I have seen him perform with this group before, it is an opportunity to really experience and appreciate his talent. Anyone who will be attending the festival should not miss the "Jimmy Breaux" show.
