Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

Got the DVD yesterday. It takes a different approach, and it's refreshing. Does not break down a tune with all the push/puls, but rather uses tunes as examples of where to take it, what to do with it. Not a beginner's DVD if you're looking to build repetroire or learn from scratch, but worth it for beginners as well to grasp the feel of cajun, creole, cajun blues. Covers a lot of territory. Peppered with Wlison's tongue in cheek sense of humor and enthusiasm. Well worth it.

Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

I agree in spades. I haven't had a chance to view it all but I did get through the part on triplets and I thought it was outstanding. This in conjunction with Steve Riley's DVD (and of course Dirk's to start with)contains pretty much the whole deal on getting the cajun sound. Executing it is another thing, but it is pretty much all there to learn.

Steve and Johnny:

I am watching my copy now--it just arrived and I can tell you both that I will end up wearing this dvd out! Wilson is a great teacher, and Johhny you are right, the 'lessons' do seem to tie nicely to other video's.

Peace,
Griff

Re: Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

I love the DVD. I've watched it all the way through at least three times.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

This is a great video produced by Wilson. He is a great musician and he shares his knowledge from many years of experience.
The price of the DVD is very small for the content you receive.
Kent!

The dvd isn't on the Pine Leaf's site?

I went to the Pine Leaf's web site last nightl, but Wilson's latest DVD wasn't there... Am i missing something?

Thanks, I just ordered my copy.

www.arhoolie.com has some cajun music and videos too

Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

I got it yesterday and it's really fantastic. Imagine everybody at Balfa Camp doing those triplets over and over!

Re: Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

It's definately a fun video to learn from. It focuses on the accordion embelishments, which is something I've been anticipating and hoping for.

I had a feeling Wil would make a video like this!

It is a must to support young Cajuns keeping the scene alive!

Steve Riley's video is also good.

The first video I worked with for a couple years was Dirk Powells... They are definately THE ones to start with, if you are a beginner.

Every video proves effective in time, I know that much.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

Just wondering where can one order Steve Riley's video?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Wilson Savoy's instructional DVD

Use the link above to Almena Pictures. This is Wilson's film production comapnay. Wilson produced the Steve Riley video.

Griff
