Crooked Accordion Breaks

Hi Does anyone around here have a theory why so frequently the accordion breaks are a measure or even sometimes a half measure longer or shorter than the vocals in many tunes?.
I'm playing a waltz ..."La Pistache a Tante Nana" and the accordion arrangement of Danny Collette and also other previous versions is often a full measure longer than the other instrumentals and vocal. I love this arrangement but it always throws off other musicians including my band members when we jam or work up a new tune. Do other players stick to their guns or standardize the length of solos to make it easier on accompaniests?
