My dear Bravenets,
In the salpa discussion, Glenn wrote "I am interested to know whether anyone can tell what brand box is being played just by ear ?"
So I was wondering if anyone could tell me wich accordion Octa Clark played on the record where he was accompanied by Steve Riley on guitar and voice (and a fiddle)title: "you can't go wrong if you play it right", if I am well informed.
I would go for either Bon Tee (sound) or Acadian (Bass side taken into account, but I miss something in the sound to vote for Acadian).
Or did he change accordions ?
I get surprised all the time...I can pick out Falcon's easier than any other accordion...the others I find, are much more similar than different. I am not even going to try. I heard a recording of his early this morning on KRVS...the accordion sound was real dull...didn't sound like all the other recordings I had heard of him. Anyone else hear that this morning?
Seems like a very tricky thing to identify an accordion from a recording, since room acoustics, the microphone used, and equalization are all going to affect the way an accordion sounds.

Octa used to play a Crown brand which I think was made by John E Hebert. That is most likely what he used to record too. Marc Savoy thought he used an F accordion on the older record by Arhoolie.
