This is probably one for Jude, since it concerns a Bon Temps, but I'd be happy to hear any suggestions.
I have a beautiful black Bb (#67, Jude - I'd be interested to hear it's history.) It seems to leak under the flappers. Not enought to sound reeds under normal pressure. I was advised to shorten springs by one coil. This has stiffened the action without noticably reducing the leak. Can I try different springs, maybe? They must have different characteristics, depending on whether fine or coarse, for the same length.
The worst leak is under the air valve. The end that the spring presses down seems OK, but that seems to kick up the other ( hinge ) end a little. The gap is noticable with the naked eye. Could I fit another spring the opposite way around? Or what?
Any suggestions gratefully received. It's a lovely box, spoiled by this little defect.
