Octa Clark waltzes

I just got through listening to several Octa Clark waltzes and then tried to duplicate that constant 16th or 8th note constant repeat that he uses throughout each waltz. Call it a bounce, " chacky-chack", whatever, but I just can't seem to get that same sound by bouncing the button, fast bellows change, etc. How did those old guys get that great sound. Real fast fingers?

Re: Octa Clark waltzes

Glad you brought that up, JB. I've got some Octa Clarke stuff on CD that someone burnt for me, and I'm trying to identify a track.

According to Realplayer it's 4.14 long and according to my hi-fi it's 4.11 long. It's a kind of bluesy/swingy thing in G, with two fiddle breaks ( Iknow- standard stuff ) no vocals, and puts me in mind of 'Shortnin' Bread '. Makes me think of the old cook in carpet slippers in the Tom and Jerry cartoons. A poor analagy, but I'm clutching at straws.

Re: Re: Octa Clark waltzes

Is it the Black Top Blues?? That one is 4:12 on my Itunes. A rocking little swinging song. If you wanna hear what it sounds like, go to Neal's website and look under Octa. Really great song.

By the way, here is the website

That's the one! Thanks Joey and Ron. I never thought to look at Neal's site. Should be my first stop. A salutary lesson!

Re: Octa Clark waltzes

The way Octa Clark was playing is very special.
Many players were inspired by Octa Clark.
It's very difficult to hear everything from a song.
Maybe you can hear it better when you slow down the song, but you allready did that I think.
Black Top Blues is also played by Dirk Powell on the CD La Pointe.

Re: Re: Octa Clark waltzes

I do not find it difficult in a song. I guess you kinda have to become one with the song block out all the other instruments playing in it and just listen to the accoridan. Octa clark was one of the greats I agree there. I like playing some waltzs like he did I wish I could play one and show you what I am talking about on youtube but i dont have a cam. One question. How can I put a link on here to where you guys and gals could click on it and here my band playing a song?

Re: Re: Re: Octa Clark waltzes

Aaron,

Just click Reply. You will see some boxes at the top to enter Name, Email, Website Link #1, Website Link #2, Website Link #3, and Subject. Link to your song at Website Link #1, 2 or 3. I don't think you need to put http:// in the front. It does it automatically, I think.

chapeau, Neill

Neill,
did you make this great website? Chapeau!
