I think Joanie could do us all a BIG favor by blocking a couple of IP addresses from the list.

Actually it serves a better purpose to delete entries as needed (which actually effectively removes an entire thread), unless they're out and out SPAM. Not all posts from some addresses are offensive and some are downright worthwhile reading.

I DID delete a post that pushed the boundries of the Board just a little too far and with it went two replies....

Doesnt anything not covering music fall into the "occasional lagniappe" catagory? Why would any post be deleted. So what you are saying is you can only post what someone else is dictating? Doesnt seem fair. If some dont like what is posted why not just go to the next post and only comment on what they are interested in. thought this was a fair place to post about music and anything else we wanted

The deleted post in question went WAY BEYOND laniappe. It was an expose of someone's personal life that honestly should be shared with mental health professionals and not posted on a Board dealing with Louisiana music. I viewed the post as something that might have been done in haste, during a period of extreme remorse, and so, in the best in interest of the poster, his family and others, I made the decision to remove it. As I stated earlier, when the beginning post in a thread is deleted, all posts in the thread are also deleted. This is not MY choice or rule ~ it's the function of the Bravenet Board setup.

I have routinely allowed freedom of speech here and have steadfastly refrained from playing the role of dictator or taking sides in argumentative discussions. I hope to continue on in that vein.

Ok i suppose freedom of speach doesnt matter here. i didnt even see the posts and now i feel cheated. and blocking some ip addresses will block several people at one time. some servers use the same ip for alot of their traffic and customers. might be blocking some innocents if you start blocking ips.

I'm for Joanie's actions. "Freedom of speech" led to the closing of the CFMA forum. Too bad, it was a great source of information.
