Caught Beausoleil last night at the Blue Note in NYC and had a front row seat so I was just a few feet away from Jimmy. At least I got to hear the accordion this time even thought it is so far down in th mix.(Hey what's up with that anyway?) He plays what looks to be an Acadiana in C and a Gros Bec in D. Both are beautiful. Who are the makers? Also, is his triple an EAD?
Hello Johnny,
How was the show in general?
To my limited knowledge, the Gros Bec has ever been discussed here before.
I believe I read some years ago that they were selling them at the now defunct Louisiana Heritage and Gifts. They were built by a game warden with a name like Chris Sequera? Sequira? I'm vague on the details except for the connection to the store--Lisa or Mitch would be able to tell you who the guy is.
I think a gros bec would look even prettier on an accordion than a crawfish.
Anyway, someone here will no doubt have better info on this accordion.
Claude
Yeah you right! I would not want him to catch dat in my pot! My old grapaw told me that they are very good, but that was back in the old days! Big beak? I think thats what it was?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Jimmy Breux's Accordions
Gros bec's are real good eatin. But if you get caught killing one it will only cost you $500 a piece in fines and then there are those court cost. So 3 gros bec's equal one cajun accordion as I see it. Maybe I'll just have chicken.
Gros Bec accordions are built by a man named "Flip" Siragusa. I met him a few years back. Yes, he is a federal game warden, and a good accordion builder and player.
The show was good. No dancing so all you can do is sit there. Mitch Reed is on Bass and does some twin fiddling with Michael Doucet. And Jimmy Breaux is just such a fine player that it is always worth it just to watch him. I think they are at Wolf Trap tonight and then back up to Pa. in Sellersville on Thurs.
