Emusic.com has 50 free downloads right now for joining. They have added a lot of Cajun music.

I had mentioned some months back, "wazz up with this mp3 and ipod thing(?)." Honestly, did not know anything about such things. Thought it was some foo fooey gadget that all the kids are yapping about.

The grand dauguter in Ft. Worth got one for Christmas via the wife (she has these things ironed out ya see). Well anyhow...The wife also wanted one and dropped the hint to me , which escaped me (might have been in one of those selective hearing modes). So to make up for it getting past me at Christmas time, I got her one for Valentines day ... it's of those ZEN MP3 jobbies, right? Thought it was some foo foo game or some such thing (not very big, it's tiny thing). So I let the sales guy do all the suggesting, cause I know nothing about these gadgets.

Ah she was thrilled with it. She spent a bunch of time back on her computer down loading this and that, I did'nt get involved, cause I'm in the family room on my laptop brave-netting ya see.

So anyhow, she comes out of her sewing room grinning one afternoon and said "check this out." Check what what out (I asked)? She had that dinky mp3 thing. I put the ear buds in.... WOW I could not believe it! Now, not only did it have great sound, she had a collection of all of her favorite stuff loaded to the crazy thing ... and graphics and play lists, pictures and it goes on and on.

Like I say, I'm not always on the forefront of gadgets, and, I am dumb as a box of rocks about a gob of the high tech stuff, it's true.
... but brother lemme tell ya, that MP3 gizmo is something I have my sights set on for my ownself now.
I will check with Linda and email you with info there Dwight about where she come up with all that stuff for hers. What an age ! What next? West World? Stepford Wives? Robotic Cajun Fiddlers?

Yeah, I just want to make sure they're not going to do hoodoo voodoo with my account info. I know some of the free sites are virus ridden to the max.

I didn't know that. Sometimes I just want to chuck all this techno gadgetry in the lake and get rid of a few worries.

Yeah, I had the same problem in the 70's. Threw my mood ring into Bayou Terrebonne. I felt a lot better afterwards.

I subscribed to emusic.. but found myself sifting through selections which were classic "cut-outs"... the stuff that never sold and which was sale bin material.

Subscriptions are renewed automatically.. so you will see on your credit card statement they have taken the initiative ( without warning you ) to renew your subscription.

Once that happened I dropped them immediately ( even with over 50 songs to my credit ). I got partial refund.

Never again.

You are right about the automatic charge deal. I kind of expected it because of the 50 free songs, but it is a little shifty.

But the "cut off" selection is not the case anymore. I like to buy the cd as opposed to by the song to have the jacket liner. But I found a lot on here I really wanted and either cant find the cd, or dont want the whole cd.

Yeah, I remember the Columbia House free CDs. It's never really "free". It would sure make sense if Floydsrecordshop.com or Louisianamusicfactory.com would decide to sell mp3 downloads of individual tunes -- or full length releases rather than only offering CDs via snail mail.

But, there's just something about the smell of offset printing, the feel of a CD wrapped around your pinkie, and the jewel case that is missing a hinge that just makes ya feel warm and fuzzy.

I believe at least La Louisianne has mp3's available, but not through them. You might ask them who they are contracting through. I had this discussion with the owner before when they were ragging on Neal.
