4 tunes on the Beginners Instructional DVD by Steve Riley

A few days ago someone asked what songs Steve Riley breaks down on his instructional DVD for beginners. I just received the DVD in today's mail -- the 4 songs are:
1) J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte
2) Les Flammes D'Enfer
3) Kaplan Waltz
4) Lacassine Special

Unfortunately, the DVD doesn't play in my player although his Intermediate level DVD does play fine. I've left a message with Jillian at Work Agencies who shipped the DVD from Lafayette. Hope to get it replaced soon. Anyone else who has the DVD -- does it play okay for you?

(In the voice of Snidely Whiplash ..)

"J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte"?

Curses! Foiled again!

Drat that Riley and his gang of lovable Playboys!

Now I must find a different Waltz for my instructional
DVD project!

Re: Re: 4 tunes on the Beginners Instructional DVD by Steve Riley

Why should you do that.
Maybe is your version nice too.
Then we have two other versions for the accordion part.

Re: Re: 4 tunes on the Beginners Instructional DVD by Steve Riley

Hi Nick,

I think there are more than enough instructional versions of "J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte", and I encourage you to pick another in its place. There are so many beautiful Cajun waltzes, many of which are secretly hoping to be rescued from obscurity by a project like yours.

"J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte" is one of those tunes in the Cajun Top 40 (like Jolie Blonde) which get done and and done and done to death, and then get over-done some more. It is very beautiful, but its prominance seems a bit out of balance to me.

Hello Dave!

Point well taken!

Have you any suggestions?

As Ross Perot said, "I'm all ears!"

Just received my DVD. I played it on both my dvd players, and it plays just fine.

To Big Nick

Nick, how about Valse Reno or Valse de Platin instead of J'ai Passé? Nice classics that are not on anyone's video. Links are above for both.

Re: To Maz

Thanks, Maz ..

Good suggestions! I keep getting pulled away from
the DVD project, but I'm glad that I've waited
becuase so many good suggestions keep coming in!

Nice YouTubing, dude

I just had to throw-up .. er, "post" a YouTube clip
myself.

I wonder if it's wound up on any on Lowriders or
iPods yet!

Re: Re: To Maz

Awesome YouTube video Nick! I heard that tune described as the most exciting 2 minutes in cajun music.

Re: Re: To Maz

Great job Nick! I wasn't familiar with this song either....

Thanks, George. Jillian responded that she has sent me a replacement DVD. Glad to hear that your copy is okay, as I should expect with the replacement.

Anything that really anchors left hand use!

Re: 4 tunes on the Beginners Instructional DVD by Steve Riley

I think the Love Bridge Waltz is an excellent song that is easy and really helps one to learn getting that left hand waltz rhythm going.
