Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What song are learning/working on?

Horace does indeed use a LOT of triples. It is very hard to play like him. I have a dvd at home with him showing how he plays J'ai passé devant ta porte. It's totally mind bogling. I've listened to it gazillions and I still can't get it

Re: What song are learning/working on?

I just a baby beginner and am still (with good success) on my way to perfecting the "99 year waltz" and "High Point Two Step". Also been working on "Under A Green Oak Tree" and "Jolie Blonde"

The newest thing, however, as a request from my wife. A song called Waltzing with Bears. A delightful, humorous folk tune, key of G, with that usual necessary mix of chords and single notes. Been great practice in playing in G. I'm attempting to transform it into a Cajun tune, with good success. Next, I need to get the lyrics translated into Cajun French.

danser avec des ours... sounds good to me!

Aye... y'all ever hear Travis Matte's "What It Do?"

On his latest CD. Ya'll want something to work on, try that one.

No booty, no panty, no thong. Instrumental and blazing riddim.

No lie just legend,

R!CK

Translation

John, shoot the lyrics... I'll translate them for you. It will not be in precisely Cajun French, but French Canadian Acadian.
If this can help, I've attach my YouTube clips of Valse de 99 ans (link 1) and Jolie Blonde (link #2).

Re: Translation

Ok here it is. A challange to be sure.

My Uncle Walter's not right in the head
He's been that way all his life, mother said
It's not that he's violent or falls down the stairs
It's just he goes waltzing, waltzing with bears

Chorus

Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Waltzing with Bears
Shaggy bears, raggy bears, baggy bears too
there's nothing on earth Uncle Walter won't do
So he can go waltzing, waltzing with bears

I went to his room in the middle of the night
I tiptoed in and I turned on the light
But to my surprise he was nowhere in sight
My Uncle Walter goes dancing at night

Repeat Chorus

We gave Uncle Walter a new coat to wear
When he came home it was covered with hair
Lately I've noticed several new tears
I think Uncle Walter's been waltzing with bears

Repeat Chorus

We told Uncle Walter that he should be good
and do all the things that we think he should
but I know he'd rather be out in the wood
I'm afraid we might loose Uncle Walter for good

Repeat Chorus

We begged and we pleaded "Oh please won't you stay"
We managed to keep him at home for a day
but the bears all barged in and they took him away
Now he's dancing with pandas
and he can't understand us
and the bears all demand at least one dance a day

Chorus

Re: What song are learning/working on?

I'm working on the Canky Chank Two Step, which I have heard on a Cd of Tracy Schwartz Cajun Trio and the Lawtell Two Step in a version of the Pine Leaf Boys.
Further I'm wrestling with all the songs I try to play !!!

Re: Re: What song are learning/working on?

I know your pain (and pleasure).

I finally found some people to jam with...and mon dieu, I'm better than I thought!
