Larry told that story to a lot of people. Then as they were exposed to more professional musicians they realized he was not telling the truth. Quebecois players use it all the time. Besides if you don't feel comfortable using it make believe it's not there. ]

FWIW ..

Yup, I do use button #1 quite a bit.

It gives the ability to have the same note on
push & pull (using the first 2 buttons).

Which allows for some flexibilty in that low register.

I think it's even more useful on my high-F box,
'cause the whole low-register becomes useful.

I've never heard of a tuning scheme such as wle's
but it sure sounds interesting :-)

1 is no waste.

Button # 1 is as practical as any other button. Took me a couple years to appreciate it.
