Concertina

Two years ago, I had a guess over for dinner I had met at an Acadian Day event. He was a musician from Germany who carried two Concertinas with him. My son and I were intrigued by this interesting instrument. We investigated a little to discover that there were two main types: English and Anglo. The Anglo (for Anglo-German I think) is the most popular type. Because they are two different reed configuration, one has to decide on what type they want to play before getting one. I shopped around and ordered an Anglo on EBay, and a How-to-learn DVD... (for Irish style).

I never got around spending time around it, and neither my son. It's sitting around in my son's bedroom, but someday, I'll get to it.

Re: Concertina

I played with a guy with a concertina two years ago on the Yankee-Chank swamp cruise during Mardi Gras. He was good enough he could pick it up and play along with about all the songs. Not traditional, but still great sounding music IMHO. Concertina, kazoo, whatever, just play the music!
