That song is Les Blues De La Prison. I love that song. Dewey has a great version of it on the recording "Les Sacalaits Sont Pas Salé". I remember hearing a black family singing what I believe is that song while picking cotton in the early 70's. Had to be some of the last people hand picking cotton. They sounded awesome, one man would sing and the rest would answer him.
certain musicians can move me to tears with their soulful vocals. there is such emotion and sadness in dewey's voice and fiddle. long live the memory of dewey balfa!!!
J'ai été au bal was done by les Blank (lesblank.com) for his company Flower Films. Folkstreams seems to gather stuff from indepenent film makers, including Les Blank (Dry Wood, for instance), not make films themselves. Les Blues de Balfa was done by Yasha Aginsky.
