Re: Re: Re: Octa Clark - You Can't Go Wrong...

Patrick,

You should have the info now

I really love Octa's compostions! Hope you enjoy
the CD as well

I don't know why his legacy isn't more widespread.

Octa Clark and Hector Duhon Ensemble Encore

This is out of print, but you may want to ask him if he has any copies of the Rounder lp Ensemble Encore. Some of it is from a live performance in Lafayette, some from the kitchen. Michael Doucet plays some mandolin on it.

Also, Swallow records has a cassette of various artists called J'etais au bal, with 2 songs by Clark and Duhon: Valse des Meches and Bosco Stomp. Hope they release it on a cd. It also features the Nathan Abshire and Balfa Brothers, the Lawtell Playboys (2 generations!), some Lionel Cormier, etc.

Re: Octa Clark and Hector Duhon Ensemble Encore

check out the website link above. He is the one who recorded the songs.

liner notes to J'etais au bal

The liner notes are online at link #2

Big Nick,
Do you play Octa's Black Top Blues?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Octa Clark - You Can't Go Wrong...

Hi Greg,

Yes, as a matter of fact, I had just learned it
recently.

Like I had stated earlier, I really like Octa's
compositions .. the progressions seem very logical
and playable to me :-)

At least, it seems to me as if I can play them

Keep squeezin'!

Re: Octa Clark - You Can't Go Wrong...

Oh Yeah
Octa Clark, saw him years ago at Mulates in Breaux Bridge, LA. Old man sittin on a chair and playing the "you know what" out of that squeeze box. Just a smiling and winking at the young (60 yr old) women who would gather round the stage and flirt with him.

It was just too cool. The next week I showed up at home with an accordion. My wife said "what are you gonna do with that". Told her I had years to learn how to play it because when I retire I want to be an accordion player at Mulates and flirt with all the old ladies. "Just like Octa Clark"

Also told her she would be welcome to come and watch, because if I was lucky enough to catch any of them women, I would not know what to do with them except talk about my accordion.

Seriously, Octa is the reason I bought my first accordion. Workin on my song list now!!! (Still got a couple of years to go)
