Getting rid of names on accordions...

I'm talking with someone about trading my beat Martin C for his pretty beat Savoy C. Trouble is, his accordion has some guy's name on the face. I could put a metal plaque on it, but that's ugly too.

Anyone got some genius idea about getting rid of names printed into the wood by the builder at time of initial sale? Help!!! -L-

Tom, a small name plate will cover the name just fine. I did it on my small red accordion. I sent you a pic of it.

If you really want to get rid of the name and want the work done right I would suggest a luthier. Check the above link for Frank Ford. He usually works on stringed insturments but the prosess is the same. Don't know if he would work on an accordion.

Re: Re: Getting rid of names on accordions...

First of all, you can always order the accordion with no name on it. Anytime Dad has extra time, he makes an extra accordion or two to sell as-is in his shop. Those don't have names. Anyone can ask not to have his name on it.

Second, yes, a luthier would be a great fix. If you want to do it yourself, however, how about filling it in (it's engraved) with a wood putty, sanding it down, and matching the finish? That's a little scary, though. You could also bring it to Dad and ask him to change out that plate.

Hope this helps! :)

Re: Getting rid of names on accordions...

I bought one of those "extra" accordions in april of 2005. Key of C, just what I was looking for. A small brass nameplate or silver whatever you like works great to cover an existing name you wish to get rid of. That what I did to "little red" ACADIAN, the 9 button that california cajun orchestra used on one of their albums.
