NEED SOME CAJUN MUSIC!!

I am from Missouri and I would love to go to a real Cajun Concert ..Does anyone know of the closest place to missouri where I can find some good Live Cajun Music?

thanks

Re: NEED SOME CAJUN MUSIC!!

You might try visiting the band sites of your favorite
cajun acts to see where they'll be performing.

I know of no Cajun hot-spots in your neck of the woods,
but that doesn't mean that someone else doesn't.

Also, watch for festivals and heritage weeks.

For instance, Folklore Village in Dodgeville WI
holds an annual event that features artists up from
SW LA, so you get the real-deal when learning
or dancing or eating :-)

There may be more of these closer to you?

Thanks Big Nick....

Yes, believe it or not I have never heard cajun music live! But me and my husband cant wait to experience it!

I am so into wanting to learn it and right now in the mode of searching for a decent 1 row to learn on!

Re: NEED SOME CAJUN MUSIC!!

A member from Chicago's chapter of the Cajun French Music Association, Monica, posts a list of all the Cajun events she hears about that are happening in the Midwest.
That's the address I mention above.

If you send her an e-mail request, she'll include you on her periodic direct e-mailings of event announcements.

I don't know where in Missouri you live but Chicago is perhaps a five hour drive from Saint Louis if you're given to obeying the law while driving.

On link#2 you can find an agenda for cajun music.

Rendez-vous des Cajun in Eunice every Saturday night on the net

Eva, every Saturday night, there is a life performance at the Theatre in Eunice, LA. Every show is now available on YouTube at link #2 above. To watch the shows life on the net, I'm not sure how to do it, but someone here must have the answer.

Re: Re: NEED SOME CAJUN MUSIC!!

If you get to Austin, we'll go to Evangeline Cafe on Monday night to hear Charles Thibodeaux and his Cajun Aces. You can get dancing lessons from Marlon McAllister and Beth Coffey. Charles, and Marlon and Beth all were special guests at the Smithsonian Festival this year. see link #1 above. Austin has a good number of Cajun Music fans.

Join the Cajun French Music Association. Get their newsletter and check the website. See link #2 above.

See you at the 2008 Balfa Camp in April. One week of workshops: intensive, joyous, Cajun music and culture experience. See Link #3 above

Re: NEED SOME CAJUN MUSIC!!

Hey there, I actually play in a Cajun band in Missouri, check out link #1 for dates and times and you can email for directions. The band bio hasn't been updated recently, but if you want anymore information about what we offer just let me know. I'm always looking for somebody to jam with so send me an email if you want to learn Cajun accordion!

Other than us, there is also a Cajun band from Illinois I believe they are called the Creole Stomp, and then there's Cedric Benoit in Branson too but I've never been there when he has been playing so I can't say what he sounds like live. Dancing Donna has some more information about St. Louis Area shows for Cajun and Zydeco. (Link #2)

Good to hear that there's more people in Missouri that share my affliction!
