Dear Santa

Just so you know, the chimney at the new place has been cleaned and there is plenty of room for you to get down it with an accordion, cajun style, in C, preferably high end...

If you don't know where to get one, ask the Braves, they should be able to round one up in time.

Re: Dear Santa

Here's hoping that Chili Bean gets the most specialish C cajun accordion to fit her dreams....

Good things come to those that wait...

:-)

Re: Re: Dear Santa

Eva speaking of waiting did you sell that accordion yet and buy a Martin??????

Re: Dear Santa

I sent you an email about a box I had, you never responded. If you want a box so bad why not buy one instead of complaining.

Re: Re: Dear Santa

Peace on Earth & good will towards men.

Re: Re: Re: Dear Santa

My frustration is there are too many folks complaining that there is no good boxes on the market. There are plenty, so it's just a matter of them making the effort to save up and get it. Stop complaining, save your money, get an accordion. It's not gonna fall from the sky..... well it might, but very unlikely.

Re: Dear Santa

I have the money, thanks.

However, if I am going to spend that kind of money, plus 20 % exchange, I want one that I like to look at. I will probably have it for sometime, and it is not easy to trade up from where I live, obviously.

I put up one last request, on the off chance there is someone out there who may not have heard my plea before. I do have an opportunity to get a Martin, just like yours, with crawfish for $300 less than you're asking.

This will be resolved in the next couple of days and you won't have to listen to me 'complaining' anymore.

Re: Re: Dear Santa

Hi, the problem facing import percentages & exchanges is always a big downer if you shop for an LA instrument outside the USA. But as I mentioned before: most accordions i bought from people here, like f.i Buttonbox, were not always that cheap, but in a superb state compared to some sold on ebay by an unknown seller, pawnshop or even straight-out crook lying about condition etc. And Ebay "buyers warranty" is really worth nothing, i experienced that. If you're lucky and able to do your own repairs and tuning, well .... but if you run in a moldy and rusty one, with even some broken reeds you can easily pay far too much. Bought one that way, crayfish bellows to boot, not much to my liking by the way. And i've f.i. seen a Martin which really had a life, and which was pretty expensive too. Stops and reeds "repaired" in place with superglue, white glue etc. A real mess. How "lucky" i was since it was someone else's ebay buy. Any good instrument is always expensive, and these high end LA accordions are in fact far better built but still pretty cheap if you compare them with factory made Italian high end stuff. So lets face the music and stop crying the blues over some quality stuff for sale at a fair price; it's rare that you'll find something cheap which doesn't turn out to be a roadkill short of dying and desperately in need for an (expensive?) doctor. If curable at all. - Nout

Re: . . . Santa bring me this CD compilation

Man this thread started out funny and I wish it would have stayed that way. Next time we get a good line going lets keep it on track. All complainers, whiners, and people with issues should be noted in the subject line. Like I said once before, "an accordion is like a women-or for some a man- they are all fun to hold, they just hold differently. It really is a personal thing. It's like Willie Nelson and that old guitar with the hole in it, it becomes a part of you.

Re: Re: . . . Santa bring me this CD compilation

Braves-

Amazon has two boxed sets of classic Cajun/Creole music offered together for just less than $55.oo or you can get either set for a really reasonable price. Just ordered mine for Christmas

Re: . . . Santa bring me this CD compilation

Actually, there are at least 5 five CD compilationss that have been released during the past several years. Four of them have a lot of duplication with each other. It's hard to say which one is the "best."

The ones that I know about are:

1. Cajun Country - More Hits from the Swamps; JSP 7749-100 Remastered Sides...

2. Cajun Early Recordings - Important Swamp Hits; JSP 7726- 102 Remastered Sides...

3. Cajun Capers - Cajun Music 1928-1954; ProperBox 91 - 107 Remastered Sides...

4. Cajun Collection; Disky HRCD 8096; 100 Original Cajun Classics from Louisiana...(This is mostly from recordings on La Louisianne)

5. A three-CD set from the Country Music Foundation with titles Gran Prairie (CMF 018-D); Raise Your Window (CMF 017-D); and Le Gran Mamou (CMF - 013 -D).

Of the five, I actually like the CMF releases the best; but obviously, I had to get all of them and listen to them to have that opinion. They are all good.

There are other smaller compilation recordings, including a set of 8 LPs on the Old-Timey (Arhoolie) label that are outstanding. I have to give credit to JSP and Proper, however, for doing something that American labels seem not to have been willing to do.

None of these compilations have two songs by Berthmost Montet and Joswell Dupuis that I have been looking for...High Water Waltz and Nina One-Step (Victor 225620). I have heard that Berthmost Montet plays some incredible accordion on these songs; but I may never know...these are apparently quite rare.
