Hi Bryan, similar tunes ... often the more so are B parts. - If you're lucky you play the fiddle and can learn a tune that way first, or whistle the melody first and from the heart, even sing the song. That way you'll notice the melodic differences and values more easily. To me it always makes more sense to learn to play a tune that way. Melody based versus "lick" based playing. If you prefer an improvising style of playing you'll find that most tunes have certain important key notes or even riffs: the ones that always should be there along the same point on the timeline, and the rest might be of lesser importance.- Nout
