Re: New FCC Rules & your Wireless mic

The AT Pro-35 (external) and the Shure R-65 internal are great analog mic opportunities. The Wireless mics are all going to be changed in short time due to new FCC rules regarding the digital spectrum and TV that changed on June 12th. Technically, those wireless spectrums are all owned by someone (google, verizon, AT&T, etc). Using these spectrums w/o license is technically a violation and prosecutable. The ongoing problem with Samson, Shure and other wireless mic arrangements is the possibility that someone else (a TV or Radio station) will own the spectrum in the town you have your next gig in. You may find that Samson picks up Channel 57 Fox TV perfectly along with your accordion. The only solution is to get a wireless system that covers all 1100 available channels to get one that is free (expensive). A cheap single channel, 10 channel (read: frequency) will eventually find a conflcting signal.Especially in large metro areas. However, that brings you back to point #1 and the new FCC rules. Brand new, an AT Pro-35 is only about $135 shipped. which is a fine price compared to the $600 or better for wireless systems that may be blocked in the very near future. All sorts of touring bands, productions, etc. are trying to find out now how much bite the FCC will have in once the conflicts of digital frequency ownership become clear. Maybe wait a bit to get some clearer indication before investing major $. :)
