I corresponded with his son, 'Chubby ' CARRIER, in January...it was pretty clear that Roy was in a significant health slide.
What a legend....I have all of his CDs, saw him play at Rock n Bowl, the now defunct Ft Lauderdale C & Z Festival, and so on. Roy, Chubby and Dikki Du also did an acoustic 3 row segment on the small and intimate Backwood Stage at Ft. Lauderdale that I'll always remember...was a chance to see them up close and ask questions etc..
.A real gentleman. Always prepared to stop and chat.
That growly triple row sound will remain with me as will his bluesy style Zydeco .
other posts discussed Zydeco players of being protective of their licks. Roy was kind enough to spend his break time at a Glen Echo gig to show me some stuff on his 3 row. Class act.
Oh man, I didn't know he was sick :( I will miss him, he was truly a great man, and awesome accordion player. He could really wail the Zydeco and Creole with only 3 fingers. Rest in peace friend
What a great gig he did in Saulieu years back.. a real gentleman.. humble and a great showman at the same time ( you can probably remember his Queen Ida imitation? )..
I understood he was Clifton Cheniers cousin?..
Was one of the very few to do PA songs on a triple row..
