Please, not the ones in Mr.François' Big Yellow Book.
I can't get those to fit the melody.
The recordings I have of this number are on the Briggs Brown 'Tee Cajun' album and also sung by Jamie Bergeron on one of his albums.
By the way, Maz's lyrics to Midland 2-step are:
Oh Catin (Oh Darling)
Oh tous mes parents (Oh all my parents)
Et puis moi j'connais (And I know)
Ça veut pas me voir chez toi (They don't wanna see me at your place)
Oh Tite fille (Oh little girl)
Oh j'vais m'ennuyer de toi (Oh I will miss you)
Oh tant de misères (Oh so much misery)
Et moi j'ai jamais rien fait. (And I've never done anything wrong
I don't have Briggs version, I have the Aldus Roger version with Don Guillory singing, which is the same tune as Bayou Chene with different lyrics, and is different lyrics than in the yellow book. Can you email the Briggs version and I'll take a crack at it?
Oh yea yai, toi tu m’as dit tu pouvais m’aimer,
‘Tite fille on s’entend bien moi j’suis gone à Grand Duson.
Oh, yea yai, toi tu m’as dit tu pouvais marier,
‘Tite fille on s’entend bien, moi j’suis parti pour m’saouler.
Oh, yea yai, ça t’as fait (z)avec ton nègre,
‘Garde donc mais jolie fille, moi j’suis là après m’saouler.
Oh yea yai, ça t’as fait y’a pas longtemps,
‘Tite fille mais ’garde donc là, moi j’suis là tout gabillé ( ??).
Many Thanks for the offer, Bryan, but once again Monsieur Marc nails it.
The Man is an Absolute Genius, and I really think Big should hire him as this forum's Official Lyrics Archivest and Official Translator and pay him an amount equal to the WebMaster's salary.
Oh, what's that, Big? You're doing this because you love it and not for any money? What an interesting way of thinking.
Marc, Many thanks for giving me another song for my collection. You have never failed any of us yet.
JB
Bryan, I believe Neal is probably right; I've listed to the song about 10 times now and there is definitely a hard 'g' sound to that last word, so it may well be 'gaspillé'
That may be Homer Lejeaune singing on the Briggs Brown CD.
