Hey anybody know if there are any cajun songs about war because i want to learn some.

The only one i know of that is close is kevin naquin's les fordouche

I know there's a couple, here are the lyrics as sung by Harrison Fontenot to Lonesome Soldier Waltz, to the tune of Calcasieu Waltz. Lee Sonnier and Ambrose Thibodeaux also recorded versions of War Widow Waltz to the same tune and almost same lyrics. Nathan Abshire also did Service Blues about going into the Army. John Bertrand recorded Le Soldat Fatigue. Neal will probably know more.

Ouais chere, au jour d’hui j’ai eu ma letter que dit il faut j’va dans l’armée, c’est dur de me connaitre faudras j’quitte toi et les p’tits en arriere, mais j’ai un devoir à faire.

Un de les choses j’crois j’prende plus dur, c’est de connaitre le matin, quand les p’tits va s’lever, ils vont dire “Mom, àou dad?”. J’va pas etre la pour les prendre d’sus mes genous.

Oh yaille, j’apres priez au bon Dieu. Ouais, que le jour va venire moi j’va retourner a ma maison. Ouais chere ‘tit fille, mais tu connais que moi j’m’ennuie, avec des larmes dedans mes yeux, et j’ai un couer aussi cassé.

I've written one, but no waltz alas, with much appreciated grammatical help from Dowell and Marc, about Ozeme Carriere, a Jay-hawker from civil war times, using the traditional melody partly from OT country song & tune "Johnson Boys", an old similar brand of a**holes raiding the local population in more northern states. What about Guilbeaux's pelican Waltz and Napoleons's Waltz from Denus Mcgee? I remember David Greely telling me that the story goes- soldier Guilbeaux's last wish before execution was to play his fiddle one last time, so he played a waltz on top of his coffin, and Napoleon was so impressed, he followed up with his own? (something like that) It was a cool story anyways...

For a long time I thought about writing a Cajun tune about Iraq. I had my accordion over there, and it says much for the construction of Cajun accordions that they even survive war zones.

Jude, that's something you can advertise about your Bon Temps - they are combat-proven!

You should write it one day. Because that one, above, except for the title, has nothing to do with that war.

Talk about some blues, too.. I came back very cynical about the military and the situation over there.

Family, a beautiful wife, good food, good music, and a normal life solves all them problems.

The one I can think of is Soldier's Waltz by Charlie Broussard on fiddle, later done by Shorty LeBlanc on accordion. One of my favorites.

So you can hear it with accordion. What an underrated performer Shorty LeBlanc was! He was the accordion player on Sugar Bee, the first Cajun song of its kind with accordion on the Billboard charts.

I have this album and man I love this song.
