Mike: I've been so inspired by your story and correspondence I wrote a song about you. I took the meter from english translations in liner notes of Cajun records/tapes/cd's i've been listening to. Maybe someone on the forum will translate. Or add new verses. Enjoy!
I have an accordion
I don't know how to play it
ay mami my heart it will break
The thumb strap
is not pliable
oh mami it hurts my hand
The video by Dirk
It's so hard to see
I will go blind

I'm having a hard time with the 'song' Dave from Albert Turkey composed for Mike.
Was this intended as a put-down, or am I reading too much into it.
How does Dave know Mike drinks gin, or anything alcoholic, for that matter. He may be a lemonade and ice-tea man.
I will admit, though, that a few beers usually does improve my playing. After a few gin-and-tonics, though, I'd be playing the bass with the right hand.
Whatever, Mike took it well.
That picture Mike included of the alleged thumb straps with the leather string looked kinda kinky. Would that be allowed on stage if children were present?

Peer, just use the Dutch word for 'thumb strap'.
Most of us wouldn't know the difference.

That strap with the leather running through it? One of the great members here gave me that tip, but only ran ONE through his. I ran several to test placement, measure effect of placement etc. From there, my wife began making me an assortment to choose from. Crazy old girl forgot i only have ONE thumb! Because I asked her to buy me a soft leather because of my problems with nerve damage etc, it stretches quite a bit so I suppose having a lifetime assortment is a good idea? Plus, she bought enough leather to make me accessories if needed. If she breaks out her "Bedazzler"? I'm OUUTA here!
Different meter maybe, but definitely playable as blues. Could someone tell me what the French word for thumb strap is?
and who is gonna write the music?

Hee John B! Riem van de duim !! haha! niet slecht.
This is as close as you can get, because I don't think there is a Dutch word for thumb strap.

As for Acadian French, I don't know much about that. I learned most of it on this board!! so this is just made up for fun. All the ingredients Dave from A. mentioned are in it though!

This year, again no bottering I'm afraid!
I didn't hear anything yet from the organizers.
Merci, Christian. Poucier sounds good.
So does Ariette indeed; much better than "Mike C." (with all respect)
And maybe someday there will be music to it.
Just waiting for inspiration. (might take very long)
