I'm in Louisiana for Festivals Acadiens. I stay in Lafayette during one week.
Do you know some cajun music shops, around Lafayette ? I know only Swallow Records Shop and Savoy Music Center. In Lafayette, what a big surprise, That's the desert !!!
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
Abbeville Record Shop near the square of Abbeville. Just ask anyone on the street and they'll point you in the right direction. Not a huge selection, but they have cajun music CDs. Then you can go to Richard's seafood resturant if you go in the late afternoon. Very old 50's - 70's building. They may give you a tour of the secret gathering place of Richards old Sale Barn. They hire bands to play there only to be seen by 100 people or less. Must have ticket to enter. The setting is very personal because your right there with the band which is situated on a raised platform which was built onto the tiny sale arena. The audience is all around 180 degrees on the viewing bleachers, but real close. Christmas lighting!!
Ask around about the Pioneer Trading Post on Highway 167 just south of Acadiana Mall in Lafayette, on the left as you are heading to Abbeville. Mr. Walter Broussard sells used Cajun records there in a section of the store. LPs and 45s. Probably the best collection in the area. He does a lot of business with European visitors. Negotiate prices! I've gotten some things there my last two trips.
(Not quite sure of the title Pioneer ...Somebody down there will know for sure).
Begnaud House in Scott has a good selection of CDs and books and the Coffee Break in Breaux Bridge has some good current stuff like High Performance, Ray Abshire, Cedric Watson, Pineleaf, etc.
