Re: Brett's links work for everyone?

I also had trouble with link 1 and also 2. I got the file from link 2, but it opened a youtube video that wouldn't go away. Link 1 started something other than the download page, so I couldn't get that file.

Brett - I've enjoyed the lessons that you've put on youtube. Thanks!

Re: Brett's links work for everyone?

Brett, if you upload files for downloading less than 100MB maybe the free versions of yousendit.com is a better option? Or mediafire.com, for longer lasting files. - Nout

Re: Brett's links work for everyone?

Bruce - I will email the files to you. I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos.

If anyone else has problems let me know and I will send them.

Thanks
Brett Thibodeaux

Thanks

Re: Cajun Accordion Music Theory - Files

This will help explain how to use the LINK #3 MUSIC THEORY Document.

The Music Theory PDF is a sheet that I made to summarize a lot of things:
- Horizontally across the top are all of the possible notes on any instrument; starting with C. If you think of a keyboard the flats/sharps would be the black keys and whole notes would be the white keys.
- The 8 notes directly below the each of these notes in the top row are the 8 notes in the key of each note; I.E. the notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C are the 8 notes in the key/major scale of C. You can see how I got each of these notes to the left. By starting with C; I move a whole step (or two half steps) to the right to D, another whole step to E, a half step to F, a whole step to G, a whole step to A, a whole step to B, and a half step back to C. By knowing these 8 notes in a certian key you can find many other things like the notes in a chord, or the chords in a song in that key.
- The 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes in the scale will be the three notes that make up a chord; I.E. the CEG notes will be the three notes in the C chord.
- If you take the notes in the major chord and flatten the 3rd note you will get the three notes in the minor chord; I.E. C, Eb, G are the three notes in the C minor Chord.
- Remember that in most songs the key of the song is the chord that begins and ends the song; If the song starts with G and ends with G then most likely the song is in the key of G and likely will have the C and D chords if the song is a three chord song (I.E. the Back Door). The likely major chords that will make up a certain song will be the 1st, 4th, and 5th notes of the scale. So a song in G will likely have the chords 1st-G, 4th-C, & 5th-D in them. A song in C will likely have 1st-C, 4th-F, & 5th-G in them. If a song only has two chords they will most likely be the 1st and 5th chords (Key of C will have C & G) (Key of G will have G & D).

Most of this information is redundant in Jamie Halls Music Theory.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
Brett Thibodeaux

Re: Cajun Accordion Music Theory - Files

Yeah, Understand how a tune is structured is very important to play music. I started accordion without musical knowledges, I haven't any musician friends, so the only way to understand music was:

- 1st learn basic tunes from tablature (very basic and not cajun ones, just to get use with the instrument).
- 2nd read lots of music theory about partition, how a tune is built and how a tune is made and how my instrument is built. + listen lots of cajun music.
- 3rd Learn by watching clips.

...and just so know learn by ears, and it seem so easy know!

I don't say it's the best solution for everybody, but for me I think that getting all this steps have been vey useful...

and Brett, thank you for all your stuff about making video lessons and now with this new tutorials, very useful as always!

Re: Cajun Accordion Music Theory - Files - For KEYS A - Bb - C

Some folks have asked that I complete the Accordion Theory file for several different key accordions. Attached you can find Link #1 (Key of A), Link #2 (Key of Bb), and Link #3 (Key of C). There have been some revisions to the C file since last posted.

Hope you enjoy, and feel free to ask questions if something isn't clear.

Thanks
Brett Thibodeaux

Re: Cajun Accordion Music Theory - Files - For KEYS D - G - Music Theory REV1

Link #1 (Key of D), Link #2 (Key of G), and Link #3 (Music Theory REV1).

Re: Cajun Accordion Music Theory - Files - CONSOLIDATED - BIG NICK

Better Yet I have consolidated all of this information (LINK#1) into one PDF document along with an explanation of how to use each document step-by-step. I have also forwarded this to Big Nick's Email in hopes that he can load onto the bottom of this discussion board (similar to Jamie Hall's Music Theory) so that this will be more readily available for others in the future.

OK I'm finished for a while.

Thanks
Brett Thibodeaux
