Adopting Adobe Town and McCullough Peaks Herds in WY
I have been following the Adobe Town Herd in Southwestern Wyoming for 6 years, and my book Wild Hoofbeats: America's Vanishing Wild Horses tells the stories of my relationship with this herd. When I started following them, the herd was over 1200 horses, now less than 400 roam on almost half a million acres. The McCullough Peaks Herd in Northern Wyoming I have also followed and photographed and gotten to know over the last 6 years, and this colorful herd that is very accesible to the public has been a wonderful ambassador herd, allowing many people travelling through Cody to get an experience of how magnificent these horses are. In October they were rounded up and theirn numbers reduced to around 120 horses.
