Thought you might be interested to know that there are currently several huge posters in London Underground stations which advertise an exhibition of the Queen's formal dresses from the 50's. The accompanying illustration is a photograph of Marilyn Monroe shaking hands with the Queen - but standing right next to her is the great man. This will probably have been a premiere at Leicester Square Odeon or something similar - "The Prince & The Showgirl" maybe? That would make it '57, I think, which I guess was a time when VM was frequently in the UK. Perhaps you can pinpoint it. Anyway - nice to see him lifesize every time I walk through Pimlico station . . .
Hi! Thank you so much for your nice message on the board! That is so great that they are using that photo of Victor and Marilyn Monroe with the Queen on the posters advertising the exhibition of the Queens formal dresses! That would be so cool to see! :) Thank you so much for posting about it! Yes that would have been at a premiere in Leicester Square. Vic really enjoyed living in the UK during that time.
Thank you so much again for your nice message! Have a nice day! :)
Hi again -
I actually came across newsreel of this event, which I believe was in October 1956. You can watch it by going to http://www.itnarchive.com/britishpathe/ . You have to register (free), then get ready to spend far too much time viewing fascinating old footage complete with marvellously dated commentary. Once you're in, just search in the obvious way. Enjoy!
Hi! Thank you so much for posting the information about that site! That is fascinating! I can't wait to watch that newsreel and others. Thanks so much for posting the info! I'm going to go and watch it now! :)
