This forum is a venue to share opinions and information about other musicians interpreting Morricone's music. I was inspired by Michael Caletka's forum, and used the same service provider with him. Thanks Cali...

Re: Jens Thomas Plays Ennio Morricone

I've had the opportunity to listen to this album once. I must say it is so different from the originals that you must rather be a piano fanatic than a Morricone fan in order to enjoy it. I basically heard it like a number of bizarre piano tracks where I, at times, recognizes melodies.

A weak point of the album is that Jens might like Morricone music but doesn't seem to know a lot of his work. Only 3 Leone films are represented here, plus "Here's to you". Jens doesn't at all bring to the light obscure or forgotten Morricone tracks (like Zorn did for example). He only treats the most obvious ones.

I must admit that Jens' piano playing is impressive. "Cockeye's song" is to my ears the most enjoyable cue.

I didn't really like the album, but was glad I could hear it - for curiosity's sake.
