Bill: You guys always seem to be in the middle of everything I look into. In this particular case, a laision Officer from 2/4 Arty was there that day when they had to get a CH-47 to lift it up to get 2 of your pinned guys out. Strap broke and he ended up with a back injury. Doesn't remember the date (May-Aug/67), but remembers that he was with LTC Zastrow, Bn CO of 2/60 along with 5/60 that day. Contact was made just before the APC hit the mine. Let me check with him to see if he remembers the pontoon bridge.

Bruce,
I believe that you might be refering to an event of 6/25/67. The 3rd Squad of the 1st Platoon of Bravo Company 5/60 was almost completely wiped out when their track hit a booby trap bomb. A pontoon bridge had been left in place over a canal and Charlie put a 500 lb bomb under it.
A fellow in the track behind just happened to take a picture at that moment and got a picture of the track flipping over in the air.
Five men were KIA, one man was blown off and lived. He spent the rest of his tour as a cook at Binh Phuoc.
I was there in the AM when they layed the pontoon bridge and I know of a lot of the other events because one of my good friends was also a member of that squad. He had been on an ambush patrol the previous night and missed that fateful ride.

Anyone remember an incident around May-Aug/67 where a 5/60 APC hit a land mine, overturned, pinning two guys under it. They had to get a CH-47 out of Tan Tru to lift it and get the guys out.
