There are many new fans of Cussler novels, and many would like to read them in Chronological order. If you want to read the books in chronological order, the most important thing to remember is to bump Pacific Vortex to the top of the list, as it was written first, but published a few years later:
Pacific Vortex (1983)
Mediterranean Caper (1973)
Iceberg (1975)
Raise the Titanic (1976)
Vixen 03 (1978)
Night Probe (1981)
Deep Six (1984)
Cyclops (1986)
Treasure (1988)
Dragon (1990)
Sahara (1992)
Inca Gold (1994)
Sea Hunters (1996)
Shockwave (1996)
Flood Tide (1997)
Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt Revealed (1998)
Serpent (1999)
Atlantis Found (1999)
Blue Gold (2000)
Valhalla Rising (2001)
Fire Ice (2002)
The Sea Hunters II (2002)
White Death (2003)
Golden Buddha (2003)
Trojan Odyssey (2003)
Lost City (2004)
Sacred Stone (2004)
Black Wind (2004)
*Polar Shift (2005)
*soon to be released

Re: Chronological Order - Not Publication order
Thank you thank you thank you. i have spent ages flicking through my books trying to work out the right order to read them using date references and also references to previous adventures, so obviously if they say hey remember when we raised the titanic the book must occur after raise the titanic, but you just saved me some brain mashing time and have given me more time to enjoy the books. got a bit confused because my mediteranean caper is called mayday and realised i dont have flood tide!!!!! i have read it but must have borrowed it will rush out and buy it soon
Thank you again
Thanks alot, I spent hours going through web sites and publication dates and never found anything. This helped alot. I can't wait untill the new one comes out.

Re: Chronological Order - Not Publication order
Hi Dave -
I've begun rereading the older Cussler novels.
First is Iceberg. I'm almost finished, but am
wondering, in which book does Al Giordino first
appear?
I may not be Dave, but Al first appears in Pacific Vortex (although not until near the end). Al plays a key role in all the Dirk Pitt novels except for Iceberg; in which he never makes an appearance.
Thanks so much for the book list, like most of us it clears up much confussion. Can I ask you if this list refers to paper backs or hard cover or would they be the same? Also, is there differences in value between the two? I have never seen hard backed in the shops even though I have two ex-library hard backs obtained from a garage sale.
On a different matter: I have forgotten my passwrd what can I do please.
I've just discovered this forum and the Chronological order of books.
This is very useful and thanks for that.
However, I noticed that here is a little "bug" in the Oregon Files books.
In "Flood Tide" a Dirk Pitt novel, chapter 21, learn Juan Cabrillo lost one leg and the Oregon is due to be sent to the scrap yard.
This happens in April 2000.
In Sacred Stone, Juan Cabrillo still leads the Corporation on board of the Oregon and seems to have 2 legs, considering the many stunts he performs.
The action takes place after 9-11-2001 as some US troops are in Afghanistan to "take down the ******* who attacked the United States".
So Juan Cabrillo should be a one-legged man and his ship should have been renamed as it's look and name have been compromised.
I haven't read other "Oregon Files" books so I don't know whether there is an explanation for that or not.
I haven`t read Sacred Stone yet because it has`nt come out in Finland but maybe Juan Cabrillo is like Ethan Hunt. Ethan Hunt is also in many Dirk Pitt- stories but he has died in some books and he still comes again in another books. I am not sure but if I remember right Ethan Hunt is a friend of Clive Cussler...
Leigh Hunt is indeed a friend of Clives which is why he appears in many of the books in different form.
The Oregon in both Sacred Stone and Dark Watch is the 2nd ship the Corporation has used.Juan's fake leg does get mentioned a fair bit in Dark Watch.
Hope that helps.

Re: Chronological Order - Not Publication order
Hello Dave, When can we expect a updated and revised listing to include all of the most recent Cussler works written and published since Dark Watch (in your preferred reading order). The list I received from you has not been updated since I received it on 8/2/05. Thank you, Jim
