Gulf War Navy Pilot Alive

By First Coast News Staff

Capt. Scott Speicher

JACKSONVILLE, FL - It has been more than a decade since anyone on the First Coast saw Captain Scott Speicher. The search for

the missing pilot has stayed alive for more than a decade through strong beliefs that he survived being shot down and was taken

prisoner.

Now nearly eleven years after the Gulf War began there is reportedly proof that Capt. Speicher is indeed still alive and being held

captive in Iraq. Cindy Laquidara, the Speicher family attorney spoke for the first time about seeing classified information indicating

that the missing pilot is still alive.

According to Laquidara, "the greater weight of the evidence is by far that he's alive. It's consistent with the treatment of prisoners

and it is consistent with the information that I have seen. In contrast, I have not seen information indicating that he's dead."

Friends of Scott Speicher say this is the news that they've hoped for all along. Said one friend, "It's great news if he is and we're

encouraged by the news and we're anxious with the events going on over there. We hope to get him back."

In addition to learning of the possibility that Capt. Speicher is alive, his supporters also learned on Tuesday that firefighters with the

Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department would put bumper stickers signaling their support for the campaign to bring Capt. Speicher

home. Firefighters say the stickers will stay on their vehicles until the missing pilot is brought back home.
