Please bring my deceased father to his final rest.

Saturday, February 15, 2003

Dear Madame/Gentlemen,

My name is L. Nguyen, a Vietnamese American citizen. At 6 years of age I was no longer having my father at home due to his missing during the Vietnam War as a civilian in Vietnam. Rumors that he has been murdered. After the War ended, I and my mother came to the U.S enjoying the freedom and opportunity in America, but we never felt completed, there was something missing inside of us, that is: I must find my father remains and give him a final rest where my mother has chosen.

Forty-two years since his missing, I now am at 48 and my mother is 83 years of old. Our desire of finding him grew even stronger, we have gone back to Vietnam several times in search for his bury place unsuccessfully. This trip, after 4 months of gathering leads, rumors and searching from places to places…finally our afford was paid off, we were able to locate, excavate and identify his remains in a small piece of land near a Bank of Mekong River at Ap 1 Area, Xa Phu Tuc Village, Huyen Chau Thanh County, Tinh Ben Tre Province, Vietnam.

However, the local authority does not let us obtain my father remains and bury him as my mother desires. Yesterday, February 14, 2003, we were picked up and interrogated for hours by Xa Phu Tuc County Communist Police for something called “ illegally digging”, although the owner of local landlord owner already gave us a permission to dig.

We were ordered NOT to pick up my father remains and stop our excavation.

We are very frustrated as the remains were unearthed and sitting in exposure. This is absolutely unethical and inhuman. The acts of Phu Tuc’s communist police violated the human moral code. We want this matter gets resulted quickly as soon as possible.

Your voice is very strong; please help us to get my deceased father rested in peace.
