US pilots from Viet-war disappeared in Soviet Union

It's been revealed that 51 captured US pilots were transferred to the Soviet Union during the Vietnam War.

The information - contained in Russian archives - has been reported in Moscow by the Interfax news agency.

It quotes authorities as saying the fate of the 51 Americans remains unclear.

The Soviet Union did not officially get involved in the 1965-1973 war in Vietnam, although it provided logistical support for the Communist forces.

Some captured Americans and their equipment were sent to the Soviet Union for study of their military technology and know-how.

Nikolai Bezborodov - who is co-chairman of a Russian-US commission on prisoners of war - says there were 38 incidents in which the American pilots were captured.

He says the identities of seven of the 51 US prisoners have been revealed.

Re: Re: US pilots from Viet-war disappeared in Soviet Union

I have been wearing, proudly, the bracelet of one of our fallen brothers whose chopter was shot down over Laos in March of 1972 and I fear that is what might have happened to him...shipped off to Russia. Please post the names if you have the list so that we might have some closure.

Thank you
