Re: Early 70's stuff

Where are the tapes refered to on the Music section of this page , like the tapes for the Dennis & Daryl album?
Are they in a library at Capitol records?

Re: Early 70's stuff

The material for Dennis' early 70s solo effort was kept in the vaults at Brother Records. I believe it remains in the Beach Boys' private vault to this day.

As the material was unfinished nor released, it would be unlikely that it would come out at this point. If there was any serious interest in having it officially released, it probably would have followed the re-release of POB on cd a few years back

Still, stranger things have happened . . .

Re: Early 70's stuff

Everything can happen Thanks for answering.

I have read that only a instrumental studio track exist for "i've got A friend". But does a proffesional live recording of that song exist ? Thats my all time favorite song!

Re: Early 70's stuff

I believe that one of the recordings in circulation *is* a professionally-recorded version (and the other is a fan recording). Steve Desper recorded a couple of concerts for the Beach Boys, with the idea of doing some overdubs in the studio later on (which the band ultimately chose not to do).

Re: Early 70's stuff

Ah, maybe there are a live recording of it in the vault that might surface one day.
I have one version that was aired on radio Luxembourg in 72 but it could have been clearer.. Better sources of that show maybe exist at someones shelf.

Re: Early 70's stuff

Maybe . . . buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut they haven't shown up in forty years, so I wouldn't hold my breadth. I'm just glad that the song is available at all, as it's a great song.

I love POB and the Bamboo recordings, but my favourite period of Denny's is from the early 70s. The music radiates positivity. What makes this my favourite are all of the great up-tempo tunes from this time frame (Sound of Free, Slip on Through, I'm Going Your Way, etc). I don't think he ever wrote as many great up-tempo songs again as he did during this period, or ever had as much diversity of sound.
