capitol records and 50th reunion

has anyone heard of any plans for capitol to release anything special for the reunion.Surely something must be on the table.Time is approaching and they should get the ball rolling. Also, will Jon Stebbens book The Real Beach Boy be ready in time for the celebration

Re: capitol records and 50th reunion

Hi Jim,
Nothing official yet regarding Capitol and the BB's 50th...but I have heard rumors of a possible box set with a ton of great stuff. I hope that happens. Regarding the new edition of the Real Beach Boy book, that is still in the works, but keeps getting pushed forward due to other projects that are eating up my time. I have a new Beach Boys book (The Beach Boys FAQ) which will be out on Backbeat Books next year. This is a very detailed and extensive volume on the entire history of the band. I'm putting the finishing touches on it as we speak...and I'm really happy to be represented by Backbeat and the Hal Leonard Group who really are the number one publisher for music related books! That one will definitely be ready for the 50th.

The revised Dennis book is still evolving, and with so much new to add, it has a ways to go. Besides revising, updating and expanding the orig. text...I'm also integrating inside perspective on the making of both the Sony Legacy POB CD release, and the 2010 Real Beach Boy documentary for BBC TV ...and now we hear that an attempt is underway to develop and create a Dennis Wilson feature film. It will be extremely interesting to see what happens regarding that, and the new edition of the book will cover it honestly and thoroughly.

Re: capitol records and 50th reunion

Any BB's Box Set would have to be REALLY good to outdo the 1993 set. There can't be much more unreleased stuff left to hear.

As for your books Jon, I look forward to both!

Oh no. There is still tons around. Don't forget, that a lot of stuff that has been unearthed in the last 10 year only came out as bootlegs. How about the 1970-71 sessions from Dennis with Daryl Dragon? Or the Beach Boys songs dubbed from what is commonly called the Landlocked era? Or the live set from 1974 with Chicago? There's stuff around allright that would easily justify a boxed set.
