Graduate Study on Vietnam War Dogs

I am an Air Force veteran, owner of a Military Working dog (retired), and a graduate student of Military History.

I am submitting a thesis proposal this week for my final seminar. One of the two topics that I chose was to answer the question of why MWDs were left behind in Vietnam. I have the short answers or the popular rumors, but I am trying to expand/analyze it.

I am writing on here, to get assistance with any historians, primary, and/or secondary materials to use in my research should this topic be accepted. Even if there is a Vietnam veteran dog handler who would like to share their experience, I would love to hear it.

Thank you

Re: Graduate Study on Vietnam War Dogs

Christina,

Suggest you skip the short answers, and the rumors, and start with a good book titled "The History of the United States Army Veterinary Corp in Vietnam" by Colonel William Clark.

You might also consider talking to the pathologist, and vet techs who sorted through all the K-9 blood samples at Long Bin, RVN.

Please let us know what else we can do to help you with your project.
