On November 9 th the NYPost had a very troubling story about a war dog. It seems a war dog was set to be retired with his handler. Both were injured and returned on the same flight together. When they landed in New Jersey, they were separated
It seems Lt Col Richard Vargas, who was in charge of war dog adoptions at the time took the dog for himself. It's an awful story. It's been in the New York Post and on Fox News. Lt Col Vargas has been offered 5,000 dollars and his choice of a dog from the ASPCA, but he will not return the dog.
This seems like a terrible violation of the regulations surrounding war dog adoption and is especially egregious coming from someone in charge of the program. I was a JAG in the USAF for ten years. This man should lose his job.
