WWII USMC War Dog

I am trying to find out about my grandfather and his dog. He was an USMC canine handler who served in the Pacific. His name was James Baker Barbaree and his dog was an doberman named BurBur. He had a picture taken with his dog and two other handlers/dobermans that was used as an recruitment picture. He was from Alabama. He was on Iwo Jima. He said that his dog died when he was on the ship returning home. If anyone has information, please let me know.

Re: WWII USMC War Dog

All USMC WWII K-9 Records have been moved from Camp Lejunie to the National Archives.

Contact them and have as much information as possible available before you ask the questions.

There is normally a fee/charge for looking up reports, and records.

Good Luck !

Would like to have a copy of the photo to place on the wall at the USMC K-9 Museum in NC right beside the
photos of the Cemetery for the dogs on Iwo Jima.
