Re: Come, Let Us Solve The Mystery of the Bb Flat Accordion
Greezy,
That's a great story and information too.
It's very special that the first B-flat accordion that was built in Louisiana was a
part of a dual key six cylinder accordion of Mr Randy Falcon.
I allways thought that the B-flat was more used by Zydeco accordionists like
Boozoo Chavis, BeauJoque, Preston Frank, John Delafose, ......
Do you know when Mr Randy Falcon built his first double key accordion ?
I wonder if some of the older Zydeco accordionists owned a normal Cajun accordion (Bb) ?
Or can they play in Bb on every accordion the owned ?
Re: Come, Let Us Solve The Mystery of the Bb Flat Accordion
Melo, Randy falcon applied or sent in the application to patent the Dual key accordion in August of 1990. That means that he had already built one before that. And it works out that Zydeco player Beau Jacques and John Delafouse started recording with a regular B flat and either 1991 or 1992. Now you're this well, Zydeco players almost always play in the fifth. That means that if they are on a B flat accordion they are almost always playing in the key of F. The steel player Randall Foreman told me that Walter mouton's voice was changing with age and he needed to sing in a key key that would allow him to not strain so much to sing. So he got with Randy falcon and bought him and accordion one step down from a C, the B flat
