hey Carol--- thanks for the heads up! I am actually going to be down in SWLA on March 25... and will be heading out to this event for sure! mmmmmmm!
It is probably a lot cheaper all around to fly into New Orleans, but if you've got miles, etc and a decent flight to lafayette, start NOW on your car rental because the cost goes up the longer you wait (national or Enterprise are best in lafayette, Budget beats all others in New Orleans).
Should not be any problem getting rooms around then, and with the car you can move all over... Lafayette, Opelousas, Eunice, Mamou, new Iberia... and they all have OK motels. The areas' s specialty is CHEAP motels ($30.) so if you want a little comfort, avoid small towns like Eunice, and stay in Lafayette at the La Quinta on Pinhook, the Drury on i-10... or the Holiday Inn in Opelousas is the nicest place out of the big city...and only 20 mins from Eunice.
The Best Western in Eunice is kinda weird... but at least it is clean. They have not learned the basics of running a motel. They kept on banging on our door all morning and taking turns waking us up... and when we finally answered they just wanted to know when we were leaving so they could clean the room.
So much to do!
Start reseraching it now... should be a pretty relaxed time to go down though... in between mardi gras and jazzfest.
