Revisiting old bases that have closed down

I went back to CJATC Rivers Camp, Manitoba in the late 90's for old times' sake and was really sad to see that it had been reduced to pretty much rubble. I had such great memories of Rivers. Guess I should've just left it there with my other memories of various bases we lived on.......St. Hubert,P.Q., Goose Bay, Labrador, Uplands, Ontario, Centralia, Ontario, Borden, etc. My dad was the Protestant Chaplain at each base we lived on, ending with Trenton, Ontario in 1974 when my mom, Jackie McAvany died of leukemia at the age of 47. My dad, Padre McAvany (Jack) died in 1991 after suffering complications from stroke and emphysema. My oldest sister, Darlynne, is in a nursing home (stroke) in Exeter, Ontario. The rest of my sisters are all in good health. We're kind of scattered but are all living within Ontario. I'm in London, Ont. I miss service life and wouldn't have changed it for the world. We were a whole different breed of people weren't we :)! Fond memories of base life..sigh..Starr
