On a website that I frequent I read that people who want to adopt a soon-to-be retired dog from Iraq must pay to have the dog shipped back to the US. This created quite a stir. The consensus is that the military should pay to have the dog returned to the US.
I thought that the dogs have handlers with whom they travel, which means they would return to the US with the handler, then be offered for adoption.
Could you clear this up for me?
Also, I know that some dogs need to be euthanized, but please tell me that dogs are no longer being left behind, as they have been in past wars.
